Investigation of structure of stable Ytterbium isotopes

This project concerns the study of the structure of stable ytterbium (Z = 70) isotopes with the AFRODITE spectrometer. Gamma-ray coincidence data were taken following the bombardment of a Pb-backed 176Yb target with a 750 MeV 136Xe beam at iThemba LABS (Faure). The project will involve data reduction with MIDAS software to produce gamma-gamma coincidence matrixes which will be analyzed with RADWARE. The aim of the measurement was to investigate whether Ytterbium nuclei exhibit increasing rigid-body-type rotational behaviour with increasing neutron number.
