Venue
The Workshop will be held at iThemba LABS, Old Faure Road, Faure - the Western Cape, South Africa. This National Facility can be seen from the N2 highway just 10km East along the N2 from the Cape Town Airport - about 30 minutes by car. The Accommodation will be at the Villa Via Hotel, not far from iThemba LABS.
Travel Advisory - Air Travel and the internal last leg of the journey :
Fly in to Cape-Town International Airport, the main airport of Cape Town. Mostly, flights will arrive in the morning. The organisers will arrange a pick-up at the airport to carry you to your Hotel.
Cell Phones :
It is highly recommended that you activate your cell phone for voice roaming or at least for sms (text) roaming, which is usually inexpensive.
Equipment :
If you plan to visit a Game Reserve, you will find it very rewarding to have an excellent set of binoculars (I prefer 10x50) and a good camera with a zoom to 300 or 400 mm.
Medical :
The Conference venue is not a malaria area. However, if you plan to visit a game reserve in the North of the country, you may enter a malaria area. Anti-malaria prophylactics are recommended for visitors going malaria areas. There are several types, and for some types of medication, the course should start a few weeks in advance of your visit. It is also possible to not take medication, but to follow certain preventative measures. The preventative measures involve the use of insect repellant lotion or spray for the evenings and mornings, the wearing of clothing as recommended below when outside at these times, the use of mosquito repellant coils or vapours overnight in the bedroom and sleeping under mosquito nets. Frequent and longer term visitors usually choose the preventative measure alone. This is a very personal decision. Consult your family doctor about the measures you would like to take.
Clothing :
No special dress requirements.
It is summer in South Africa.
Consult your own favourite Weather Service for further details.
