Setting Your Inbox to be Your IMAP Inbox
In order to have your default inbox be the inbox on the IMAP server,
you need to open Setup, then Config from the Main Menu of Pine. Use
'n' to move the cursor down to 'inbox-path'. Set 'inbox-path' to
{imap.unc.edu/notls}INBOX
. For example:
{psi.phys.wits.ac.za/novalidate-cert/user=sergio}INBOX
Helpful Settings for Pine and the IMAP Server
In features, enable the following features:
[X] enable-arrow-navigation [X] enable-incoming-folders [X] enable-lame-list-mode [X] quell-empty-directories [X] separate-folder-and-directory-entries [X] single-column-folder-list
Use WhereIs to find the name of the feature, Enter to toggle option or edit its value, ? to see help.
Setting Up a Folder Collection That Resides on the IMAP Server
From the Main Menu, choose Setup, then collectionList, then AddClt. You should be at a screen that looks like:
Nickname : Server : Path : View : Fill in the fields above to create a new Folder Collection. Use "^G" command to get help specific help for each item, and use "^X" when finished.
In this screen, enter a nickname which is the name that appears in the
folder collection list. An example is: Remote Folders on IMAP Server
.
Then enter the server exactly as: {imap}
. Your screen should now look
like:
Nickname : Remote Folders on IMAP Server Server : psi.phys.wits.ac.za/novalidate-cert/user=sergio Path : View : Fill in the fields above to create a new Folder Collection. Use "^G" command to get help specific help for each item, and use "^X" when finished.
Then select 'eXit/Save' to save your changes.
The new collection should now appear in your collection.
Setting Your Outbound Mail Server
This sets the host through which you send all of your mail to other people. To set this, choose 'Setup', then 'Config'. Use the 'n' key to move the cursor down to 'smtp-server'. It should look like:
smtp-server = <No Value Set>
Choose 'Change Val' and enter the new value, 'psi.phys.wits.ac.za'.
It should now look like:
smtp-server = psi.phys.wits.ac.za
Then exit the setup and save the change.
Setting Your Sent Folder
Sent mail under Pine is configured using the default-fcc configuration
option. In order to have mail stored in a folder 'Sent' on the campus
IMAP server, set your default-fcc
to:
{psi.phys.wits.ac.za/novalidate-cert/user=USER}Sent
for example,
{psi.phys.wits.ac.za/novalidate-cert/user=sergio}Sent
